Van co-founded GHJ&M in 1989 and currently serves as the Managing Partner. Van has been closely involved in the investment activities of the firm, including leading or co-leading investments in Marathon Funds I through V, serving on the board of directors of portfolio companies and working with portfolio company management teams.
Van is currently a director for GHJ&M portfolio company Transport America and Universal Turbine Parts.
Van’s career began as a corporate lawyer with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Paris concentrating on securities, banking and corporate law and participating in the representation of leading American corporations. He graduated from Williams College and the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to co-founding GHJ&M, Van spent ten years at Piper Jaffray as a Managing Director in corporate finance, where he focused on public underwritings and merger and acquisition advice.
Former community board affiliations include the Minnesota Children’s Museum, The Blake School and the Minnesota Orchestra.
